Daniel Canogar

Born in Madrid in 1964, Daniel Canogar studied Image Sciences at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he graduated in 1987.
He then settled for two years in New York, where he completed an MA in Art with a specialisation in Photography at New York University. Canogar’s work lies somewhere between humanism and science, exploring how our senses adapt to the new electronic space-time and its constant technological advances. The central axis of his works is photography, for which he uses various translucent supports, such as fibre optic cables or methacrylate, to give form to his installations, with great plastic creativity.
In the early 1980s he held his first exhibitions, although his first solo exhibition was in 1985 at the Galería Aele in Madrid.
From that moment on, his work began to gain great value and international interest, which has allowed him to exhibit in some of the most prestigious art centres in the world.
constelaciones
“Constellations” is a permanent public installation on the vaulted roof of two new pedestrian bridges crossing the Manzanares River in Madrid. Altogether they comprise more than 6.5 million tiles from the MIKRA series.
These 2 colossal murals photographically depict residents of the two neighbourhoods that the bridges connect. These neighbours have been photographed so that they appear to be floating in mid-air. The work is reminiscent of the weightless representation of the human figure in frescoes and sacred mosaics of the past. The pixels of the photographs taken by the artist DANIEL CANOGAR were transformed into the tiles of these murals, thus bringing together ancient techniques with contemporary processes.
